Radically rethinking the way food is produced and processed in the UK
Hilary Benn Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs (as pictured) has stated that the UK needs to
radically rethink the way in which food is produced and
processed if we are to enjoy food security in the future.
This macro strategy will no doubt filter down to each and every
manufacturing facility in the UK. But the fundamentals of
process, yield and efficiency improvements are
already not far away from most leading operators thoughts. We
currently have a senior role that needs someone to think about the
big picture issues whilst getting into the detail
and delivering the day to day improvements that will give
sustainability.
One bit of consultancy jargon which does some this up is
engagement and then embed. We need to find an
individual with a strong track record in manufacturing in
the food or fmcg sector. Who as we state, will drive the
tactical delivery of operational excellence through strategic
ability and mature management skills and values. Working closely
with the General manager they will set the blue print for
operational excellence and will be clearly accountable for the
delivery.
It is essential we find an individual with the gravitas and
pedigree to be seen as a natural successor to the GM role and
immediately have the credibility with seniors, peers and reports
that makes everyone recognise you are going to be a success.
Ambition and a drive to succeed is critical here with a recognition
for realistic timescales. There is a longer term job to be done
here before further career progression is likely (3-4 years). Along
with success this site needs you to bring continuity and stability
across all operational activities.
Although seasoned you will be progressive and have delivered the
results several times; a consummate professional who is self-aware
and confident, and who will live the values and drive them into the
business. It is also important you clearly know when strategy is
good and when action is needed, not being precious to get involved
in the 'muck and bullets' when the pressure is on and never
compromising on values.
